Leonard Freed, "New Years Eve Grand Central Station"
1973

This photo was taken on December 31st, also known as New Year's Eve in 1969 in Grand Central Station in New York City. I found this photo compelling because you can really see how tired the couples are by how they are sitting down on the escalator, which I think, had stopped working. I imagine that this photo was taken extremely late at night/early in the morning since it was New Year's Eve. The name of the photographer that took this photo was Leonard Freed. He was a documentary photojournalist. Many of his photos documented the civil rights movement, the Yom Kippur War in 1973, and the New York City police department. This photo however caught my eye since I used to live in New York and it reminded me of how tired I would get from walking around all day. Although, I was much younger than the couples photographed.
