Daune Michals, "Duane Duck"
1984, gelatin silver print on paper
This image to me speaks about how the world is not dull and tedious. The reason for saying this is that this image demonstrates how a shadow can be created into a work of art. The photographer Duane Michals experimented with multiple exposures, but also worked with staged scenes. I believe this photograph was one of his staged works (but I would have to do more research on that). Another reason that I love this photograph is the fact it illustrates the depth of field. If you look closely, you can see that the man's hand is sharp and definite, but as you look further into the photograph you can see how the shadow of the duck becomes increasingly softer. Thus, giving it a very distinct flow of viewing that this photograph is not just simply two dimensionally, but rather more than the eye can truly see.
