Emmet Gowin was born 1941 in Danville, Virginia. He has a BFA in Graphic design from Richmond Professional Institute in 1965 and a MFA in Photography from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1967. In his Emulation Project he would take his family to the country house and expose the moment where the person is being truly themselves.
When looking at this photo, I see a girl who is sleeping or just laying down on her bed with her clothes while everything around her is messy, cluttered, or in complete disaster. She probably has had a long tiring day and didn't have enough energy to do anything after. Honestly, I can see myself being in the same positon she is right now. After a long day of school and arriving home after a two hour bus ride, I just want to lay down on the couch and take a nap and forget about the world for at least an hour. Struggling day in and day out trying to make a better future for myself and my family.
